APB Storage is an ally to all black and POC communities and we wish to highlight the significance of today.
June 19 commemorates the declaration of freedom of all slaves in the United States in 1865, nearly two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Despite Lincoln signing the emancipation into effect, many slaves were still under the control of confederate states. It wasn't until an army of 2,000 Union troops marched to Texas and announced the official freedom of more than 250,000 people by executive decree.
Today we remember the past, celebrate the present, and continue working toward to future.
